The Studio Edit

The studio makes a wonderful fresh setting, creating simple and elegant photographs. This works particularly well for young babies and newborns.

I will always make sure the studio is nice and cosy, with low level lighting, soft music and a cup of tea to make you feel nice and relaxed. The studio works well throughout the colder months where you won’t need to tackle the mud and elements of the great outdoors.

I have a couple of different studio options. The first is a basic set up which provides a very simple back drop in either white, grey or cappuccino. This is particularly good for children from 2 years up where they can move around freely so I can capture natural expressions. The second option is a studio bedroom set up, this makes such a stunning backdrop for newborns and babies. With beautiful throws and bed linen it makes a perfect backdrop for those precious little moments that go so quickly.

I will always create natural poses and photograph flattering angles. I use a variety of different props including a mosses basket, throws, posing aids and heat pads for young babies.

WHAT TO WEAR

This is one of the most common questions I get asked!

The beauty of the studio is you can wear anything non seasonal (even pretty summer dresses in the middle of winter!)

As a rule of thumb I generally suggest keeping your colour palette to neutral shades with little graphics or heavy patterns. It can work beautifully if mummy wears a bright dress and the children and daddy wear white tops and jeans or beige trousers/ shorts. We are looking to create non fussy, simple, yet elegant, imagery.  For babies a simple white vest and any nappy pants you may have. (Don’t worry if not I have a selection to choose from.)  For little people, dresses are always very pretty, but also dungarees are one of my favourites for both boys and girls as no pants or nappies can be seen when they tumble and toddle around. Plain shirts and t-shirts are always warmly welcomed too. The best advice would be to bring a selection of different outfits along for the family so I can advise what would give the best look.

I have a box of tricks that your children can explore. It’s not usual that these will be in many of the photographs but they do work well if your child becomes unsettled. You are more than welcome to bring a favourite comforter or toy if you wish them to be included.
